Azerbaijan ranked fifth among importers of Russian ground weapons in the ranking Centre for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT) in 2011, RIA Novosti quotes CAWAT Director General, presidium member of the Public Council at the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Korotchenko as saying on Tuesday.

Azerbaijan ranked fifth among importers of Russian ground weapons in the ranking Centre for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT) in 2011, RIA Novosti quotes CAWAT Director General, presidium member of the Public Council at the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Korotchenko as saying on Tuesday.

This summer, Azerbaijan has begun manufacturing a test installing batch of AK-74M under the Russian license, the agency reported.

According to the agency, mass production of AK-74M in Azerbaijan began in the fourth quarter of 2011. The contract signed between "Rosoboronexport" and Azerbaijan in 2010, is intended for 10 years. Given the annual output the total production could reach 120,000. Main contract executor from the Russian side is JSC Concern Izhmash.
