During the latest three years the USA granted the refugee status to about 1,000 citizens of Azerbaijan, the statement of the Office of Immigration Statistics under the US Ministry of National Security says, Trend reports.
During the last three years the USA granted totally the refugee status to citizens from the CIS countries: to nearly 14,000 citizens of Ukraine, 4.900 of Russia, 2,300 вЂ" of Moldova, about 2,000 вЂ" Belarus, about 1,000 of Uzbekistan, 0,700 вЂ" of Kazakhstan. Along with the above-mentioned post-Soviet states, among the first 20 countries the citizens of which received the status were Somali, Sudan, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Iran, Congo, Columbia.
According to the Office data, the residents of the former USSR, along with residents of Africa and Asia try to flee to the USA more often. Thus, in 2004, 75.500 people applied to the US diplomatic missions with the request to grant them the refugee status. 49.600 applications have been satisfied (usually the refugee status is granted to the people which could prove that they are seriously endangered in their homelands.
