The news Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan Vasili Istratov will arrive in Azerbaijan this week, Genadi Evsyukov, the press-secretary of Russian embassy in Azerbaijan, told Trend.
According to Evsyukov, all technical moments related to his arrival have already been resolved. The diplomat is expected to present the credential to the president of Azerbaijan and start fulfilling his duties as soon as he arrives in Azerbaijan.
The post of the head of Russian diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan has been remaining vacant since September 2004. The previous Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan was Nikolay Ryabov.
Vasili Istratov was born on December 30, 1954, is historian by specialty and has been keeping the post of the deputy director of North American department of Russian Foreign Ministry since 1996.
