South Caucasus Region to Become an Alternative Source for Delivery of Energy Resources to Europe  U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State

The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Matthew Bryza, said in his speech for the Georgian television channel Mze on December 11, 2006 that the South Caucasus region will obtain a real opportunity to become a transit corridor for delivery of energy resources to Europe, Trend Special Correspondent reports.

The key outcome of the activities of the Government of Georgia is the formation of a competitive rivalry in the gas delivery to Caucasus and onwards to Turkey and Europe, he said.

Mr. Bryza appraised the efforts of Georgian Government, led by the Prime Minister, Zurab Nogaideli, who has done everything possible to become an electricity export country. The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State voiced his hope for Georgia not to have energy threats this year.
