Amendments to Law On Military Service

On December 22, the amendments to the law On military service were adopted at the meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament. The Chairman of the Permanent Parliamentary Commission for Security and Defense, first Vice Speaker, Ziyafet Askerov said that the amendments proceed from the increase of the number of soldiers in the army, Trend reports.

The amendments to the law cancel all privileges for the people who have submitted applications to the masters degree and post graduate study and who have disabled person in the family of the 2nd group. The draft period will be extended from 20 to 30 days.

According to one of the amendments, the conscripts will not receive call-up papers. After the President signs order on draft to military service, they themselves should, within 30 days, come to relevant local military registration and enlistment office. Otherwise, criminal case will be raised against them.

Askerov said that today most of the employees of prosecutor offices, customs, justice and tax bodies have not passed military service. WE consider that in the future, the people who wish to work and receive rank in the prosecutor offices, customs, justice and tax bodies should pass the military service, he said.

The Chairman of Ana Veten Party, Fazail Agamali, said that people who finish the bachelor level should be presented an opportunity to submit application to the magistracy. In response, Askerov said that each conscript should pass the military service.

The Head of the Education Department of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, Mayor Chingiz Mammadov also said that each conscript should pass the military service. The MP Ayaz Guliyev, Musa Guliyev, Aydin Hasanov, Malahat Hasanova and others made a number of proposals.

After discussions the amendments were adopted.
