Document on 20 January Tragedy Top Be Introduced to Foreign Office of Turkey

Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 January / corr. Trend E. Huseynli / The Turkish TV channel TRT will broadcast a one-hour program in the Azeri language in connection with the 20 January tragedy. The Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkey has prepared the relevant documents and submitted them to the mass media of Turkey, Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkey said to Trend. An agreement has been reached to cover the 20 January event in the newspapers. The TV channel TRT will broadcast a program called The Events of 20 January of 1990 in the Azerbaijani language at the initiative of the Azerbaijani Embassy. The one-hour direct transmission program will be broadcast by the radio stations of Azerbaijan, AzTV channel and Public TV and Radio as well.

On the night of 19 to 20 January of 1990, the Soviet Army, without declaring a state of emergency, launched a military operation against Azerbaijan. As a result of the tragedy, 131 people were killed, 117 of them were Azerbaijanis, 6 Russians, 3 Jews, 2 Tatars. 744 people were injured, 4 are missing and 400 people were arrested. After the emergency situation was declared, 21 more people were killed and 26 people were killed in the regions (Neftchala, Lankaran).

The document on 20 January tragedy will be introduced not only to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, but also to the Embassies of other countries. The ceremony, in commemoration of the victims of 20 January, will be held in the Embassy on 18 January, with the participation of Azerbaijanis living and studying in Turkey.
