Pardon for Azerbaijani bloggers can be considered after all court proceedings: ombudsman

Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 25 / Trend K.Zarbaliyeva /

A pardon for two young bloggers recently given a prison sentence can only be discussed after all the court proceedings have ended, Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymaniova said today.

"I proposed a pardon for the bloggers. They have not committed a serious crime, so the problem should be solvable through negotiations," she told journalists today.

The Baku Sabayel District Court sentenced Emin Milli to two years and six months in prison and Adnan Hajizadeh to two years in prison Nov. 11.

Milli and Hajizade were accused of Article 221.2.1 (On Hooliganism) and Article 127 (On Intentional Infliction of Minor Severe Bodily Harm) of the Criminal Code.

"The issue of a pardon is not being considered for now. The court's decision must first come into force. Then their release might be achieved. In that case, I will not have to interfere," she said.
