Georgian State Minister for Diaspora Affairs Papuna Davitaia will visit Azerbaijan in May, the head of department of Azerbaijan State Committee for Work with Diaspora Fizuli Najafov told Trend today.
"The Georgian minister's visit aims to get acquainted with the situation of Georgians living in Gakh, Zagatala and Balakan regions of Azerbaijan. During the visit Georgian Minister will hold meetings with Chairman of State Committee of Azerbaijan for Work with the Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov, and heads of state and government authorities," Najafov said.
Earlier, Georgian State Minister for Diaspora Affairs Papuna Davitaia said that according to unofficial information, over 1.6 million Georgians live outside of Georgia. According to him, this figure does not include 1.6 million Georgians living in Azerbaijan and Turkey. Officially only 1,008 207 compatriots living abroad have been registered.
