Football Club Baku, which won Azerbaijan Cup in season of 2009-2010 signed a contract with the German coach Winfried Schaefer, the club told Trend.
Sixty-year-old Winfried Schaefer, who trained the German FCs "Stuttgart" and "Karlsruher" in 1996, was called a coach of the year in Germany. Under Schaefer's leadership the Cameroon Team became champion of Africa in 2002, then in 2003, Schaefer was the best coach in the continent.
As football player Winfried Schaefer played in 1968-70 and 1977-79 respectively in Borussia Mönchengladbach together with the current coach of Azerbaijan Berti Vogts.
Previously, functionaries of the club held talks with the Latvian coach Alexander Starkov and the Serbian coach Božidar Bandovich.
Before Schaefer coach of the Baku" FC was the Turkish specialist Cuneyt Bicer.
