The assistant and aide of a former Azerbaijani Air Defense Forces commander have been sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison.

The Military Court for Heinous Crimes sentenced Aydin Rafiyev, the former assistant to Air Defense Forces Commander Rail Rzayev, to nine years in prison. The ex-military officer's aide, Anar Hashimov, was sentenced to seven years. Rafiyev's son, Anar, received 7.5 years.

The defendants are accused of theft, false testimony, bribery, and abuse of power and office, among other offenses.

According to the indictment, Razayev's aide and assistant illegally entered his office and stole his jewelry, medicine, DVDs and 200,000 euro after his assassination on Feb. 11.

The court also noted that Anar misappropriated 18 mobile phones worth 11,710 manat while working as the sales manager of Azrol Telekom.
