Azerbaijani ballet dancer appointed artistic director of Budapest Opera House

Azerbaijani ballet dancer Eldar Aliyev was appointed artistic director of the Budapest Opera House, the Azerbaijani embassy in Hungary told Trend.
Eldar Aliyev was born in 1957 in Baku. He studied at the Baku Choreographic School in 1966-1975. He worked in the Opera and Ballet Theater in Baku in 1974.
He came second in a Union-wide competition in Leningrad in 1975 and established his career at the city's Kirov Ballet where he was principal dancer from 1979 to 1992.
He moved to the US in 1992 at the invitation of the Ballet Theatre of Indianapolis and was artistic director of the city's Ballet Internationale for almost 10 years from 1994. During that time he took Ballet Internationale to many of the world's leading venues.
Eldar Aliyev made his acclaimed choreographic debut with Azerbaijani composer Fikrat Amirov's ballet A Thousand and One Nights.
He became executive director of Boston Ballet School in 2007 and has been a jury member at many prestigious international competitions.
