451 Azerbaijani Citizens Die in Captivity

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / Investigations held within the six months of this year have revealed the whereabouts of 109 persons registered at the State Commission on Prisoners of Ware (POW), Hostages, and Missed Persons. There names were removed from the missing persons' list.

According to the State Commission for 1 July, the number of POWs, hostages, and missing persons makes up 4,471, with 3,591 of them being POWs, 871 civilians and 9 non-identified people.

The list of civilians includes 51 children, 384 elderly people (175 of which are women). Information on 783 of the 4,471 POWs, hostages and missing persons was obtained.

Some 1,391 people were freed from captivity, name 343 being women, 1,047 men, 168 children and 289 elderly persons.

During the study of the data received by the State Commission, it was revealed that 451 people have died in captivity as a result of homicide and other reasons. They consisted of 86 women and 365 men. The names of only 124 of the dead persons are available.
