Turkish banking assets increase by 21 percent

The total assets of the Turkish banks in the past nine months grew by 20.6 percent year on year, reaching 1.2 trillion lira, a report of the Turkish Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency says on Thursday on its website.

The total profit of the banking sector in Turkey compared to the same period of 2010 decreased by 2.229 billion lira and amounted to 14.62 billion lira. The profit of 21 out of 48 banks operating in Turkey sharply decreased.

At present, there are 48 banks, three public, 10 with foreign shares in capital and six branches of foreign banks.

The official exchange rate is 1.7 lira to $1 on Nov.11.
