President: Turkmenistan interested in Hong Kong’s investments

Turkmenistan is interested in attracting investments from Hong Kong, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported today.

The Turkmen President has recently visited the Special Administrative Region of China Hong Kong

According to the information, the president met with Minister of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Donald Tsang. He stressed the beginning of new bilateral contacts and ties.

Berdimuhamedov met with a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Tom Tang, expressing the desire of Hong Kong businessmen to participate in such Turkmenistan's projects as the national tourist zone "Avaza" on the Caspian Sea, the construction of the transport corridor North-South, as well as oil processing and the chemical industries.

"Hong Kong is an important center of business and financial activity of global importance," Tang said. "The main offices of major international corporations are situated here."

He proposed to explore the opportunities for attracting investments from Hong Kong to the Turkmen economy.

The Turkmen President said that we are interested in investments to implement the projects in basic spheres of the economy, primarily the energy sector.

He said that the prospective areas of the cooperation include chemical and textile industry, communication, high technologies.

"All of this creates a solid foundation for long-term cooperation in investment, expands partnership and implements major joint projects," the president said.
