Some 11 million tons of goods will be transited via Iran by the end of the current calendar year (March 19, 2012), the deputy roads and urban development minister anticipated, saying that the figure would be 25 percent higher than the figure which has been stipulated in the fifth five-year development plan (2010-2015).
Over 7.24 million tons of goods were transited through Iran since the beginning of the current year, Sahriyar Afandizadeh told the IRNA news agency.
He added that 6.58 million tons of the goods, equaling 91 percent of the total, were transited via the road network.
Fuel, construction materials, foodstuff and cotton were the main transited goods, he said.
