Turkish Polimeks Insaat Taahhut ve Sanayi Ticaret A.S. has obtained a contract for the design and construction of the third stage facilities of the Olympic Village in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat, the Turkmen President's decree said on Saturday.
According to the document, it is planned to start the third stage construction operations in October 2013 and to commission the complex of buildings and facilities in March 2017.
The project consisting of three phases was started in 2010. It was reported that the implementation of the first phase of the project is estimated at $1.971 billion (excluding VAT). This will be completed in April 2014.
The second phase of the project started in Turkmenistan in May 2012. The facilities are planned to be commissioned in December 2015.
According to the Turkmen president, this will serve the purpose of creating
the conditions for training professional athletes and teams and ensuring the successful holding of international and regional competitions.
The fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games are planned to be held in Ashgabat in 2017.
"Turkmenistan was the first country in Central Asia to gain the right to host the event," Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary state news agency said. "This testifies to the fact that Ashgabat has already established itself as an active organiser and participant of the international Olympic movement."
