Iran plans to distribute food packages every two months in the next Iranian calendar year (to start March 21), an unnamed official with Iran's Industry, Mine, and Trade Ministry said, the Iranian ISNA News Agency reported on Mar. 14.

"There were some shortcomings in distributing the first food packages, but we're working on them," he said.

He went on to note that no exact date has been announced for handing out the next food package.

Iran delivered the first package to low-income Iranians in February. It included meat, chicken, rice, tea and cooking oil.

The Iranian government started handing out food packages in February. It planned to deliver a second package by the end of the current year, but it failed to fulfil its promise.

It was announced on November 26 that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has ordered officials to give two packages of staple food to low-income Iranians by the end of the current year.

Rouhani announced the plan in his televised interview on November 26, the Mehr News Agency reported.
