Iran is going to create a special zone for the production of sweet water and electricity it calls an Asaluyeh for water and electricity.

The proposal of launching the zone has been offered by the IRGC affiliated Khatam ul-Anbiya construction company which has been carrying out many mega projects across the country in the past decades.

"We have proposed the plan dubbed 'Nab' to the Ministry of Energy with the aim to mass-produce water and electricity," Khatam ul-Anbiya commander Ebadollah Abdollahi said, Tasnim news agency reported February 9.

He added the plan is under consideration by First Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri.

Regarding the appellation of the zone, he said since it is going to be a large center for the production of water and electricity, it has been likened to Asaluyeh.

Asaluyeh is an energy zone in southern Iran by the Persian Gulf which is the country's hub for the production of gas.

"Having in mind the surplus gas production of the newly-launched South Pars phases, we will launch thermal power plants to produce electricity. Then the outgoing heat will be used to sweeten water. The plan is both economically and technically feasible," he stated.

Iran has large reservoirs of gas. The South Pars is the biggest field in the world.
