Turkmenistan adopts seven-year program of social & economic development

A program on social and economic development of Turkmenistan for 2018-2024 was adopted during the meeting of the Council of Elders held in the Akbugday district of the country’s Ahal region on Oct. 10, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news agency reported.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that relying on rich resources and applying the best world experience of economic development, Turkmenistan is becoming one of the most stable, developing countries in the world with a powerful industry, agriculture, modern transportation and advanced social infrastructure.

According to him, the economic model used by the country ensures macroeconomic stability, maintaining high investment volumes, consistent development of market institutions and competitiveness. This provides opportunities to continue reforms and improve the structure of public administration.

About 70 programs, concepts and plans are being implemented in the country.

The implementation of tasks defined in the new program will allow maintaining intensive development of the country, providing investment activity, creating new jobs, strengthening social protection and further improving the housing and social conditions of the population.

The Turkmen president signed a decree approving this program.

During the Council’s meeting, President Berdimuhamedov also signed laws on free economic zones, on making amendments to the Tax Code of Turkmenistan and on making additions to the Law “On Migration”.
