Uzbekistan seeks to borrow $1B from WB

The World Bank will provide Uzbekistan with loan worth $1 billion for the development and diversification of agriculture in the country, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his address to the parliament on Dec.22.

Mirziyoyev noted that Cyril Muller, Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia, will soon visit Uzbekistan.

The president noted that he will meet with Muller personally and discuss the issues of lending.

Currently, the WB supports the implementation of 16 projects worth about $2 billion, in Uzbekistan.

These projects cover priority sectors such as agriculture and water management, energy, transport, health, education, urban development, water supply and sanitation.
