Water consumption in the agriculture sector of Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province has dropped by 32 percent and this figure will reach 40 percent by the end of this Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), Trend reports citing Governor of West Azerbaijan Province Mohammad Mehdi Shahriari.

He was speaking at the 22nd meeting of the water resources reservation council of the West Azerbaijan Province, ILNA reported.

He said that 120 million cubic meters of water is saved in the agriculture sector of the province.

In turn, Kamran Daneshjou, director of West Azerbaijan’s Regional Water Company, said that since the beginning of November, 62 million cubic meters of water entered Lake Urmia from Shaharchay, Mahabad and Salma dams.

This led to an increase in the lake’s water level by 10 centimeters, he noted.

He said that in February next year, the volume of water released from the dams of the province to Lake Urmia will reach 120 million cubic meters.
