Iran’s South Khorasan province increases cement production

Around 765,000 tons of cement has been produced at two plants in Iran’s South Khorasan province since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year, or 22 percent more as compared to the same period last year, said Davud Shahraki, chairman of the Industry, Mining and Trade Organization of the South Khorasan province.

He noted that the value of this amount of cement stood at around 920 billion rial ($21.9 million), Trend reports citing SHATA news agency.

Shahraki went on to add that 445,000 tons of the produced cement have been exported at the estimated price of $10 million in total.

“Two plants operating in Qaen and Darmian counties of South Khorasan province employ 350 people. These plants are able to produce 1.8 million tons of cement per year,” he said.

Shahraki added that 350,000 tons of the produced 593,000 tons of cement was exported in the same period last year.

Earlier, secretary of the Cement Association, Abdolreza Sheikhan said that more than 7.65 million tons of cement and clinker were exported from Iran during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Oct. 22) to register a 10.2 percent increase compared with the similar period of last year.

He noted that more than 50 percent of exports go to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sheikhan pointed out that cement accounted for 3.8 million tons of the exports.
