EU, Turkmenistan mull joint technical projects

Turkmen Minister of Finance and Economy Batyr Bazarov met with Pierre Amilhat, head of the Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission in Brussels, Trend reports referring to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry on Feb. 28.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues of developing regional cooperation, implementing the EU technical projects and programs in Turkmenistan.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the meeting of the Turkmenistan-EU joint committee in Belgium. The issues of trade and economic cooperation were discussed during the meeting.

Such aspects as the macroeconomic situation in Turkmenistan, investments, trade, transport, energy, economic and financial cooperation were also discussed.

The 19th meeting of the Turkmenistan-EU joint committee is scheduled to be held in Ashgabat in 2020.

Earlier it was reported that the EU representative office will open in Turkmenistan soon.

The EU and Turkmenistan are committed to the implementation of a project designed to supply Turkmen hydrocarbon energy resources to the European markets. The negotiations have been held since 2011.

The project of laying a 300-kilometer gas pipeline through the Caspian Sea to the shores of Azerbaijan is optimal for the supply of the Turkmen resources to the European market. Then, the Turkmen fuel may be supplied to Turkey, which borders with the European countries.
