The local businesses of The Netherlands are interested to cooperate with Kazakhstan in the development of more sustainable agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands told Trend.

“There is an increasing interest by Dutch businesses in the areas of application of satellite data, waste management, ‘smart cities’ and water management,” the report said.

Dutch companies supply innovative technology and equipment, and focus on the transfer of practical knowledge to support the development of the agro food sector in Kazakhstan.

For example, Wageningen University & Research works closely together with the agricultural university in Almaty. Recently a new public private partnership program has started to promote the development of an efficient and sustainable fruit chain in Kazakhstan.

“The manufactured production is not in the first place for export to the Netherlands but mainly supplies the Kazakh market. Most exports go to Russia,” the statement said.

While, Dutch businesses act independently and the Netherlands’ government does not steer investments or exports, still the Netherlands’ government does facilitate businesses interest in Kazakhstan. For example, by way of trade missions and information sharing.
