Fruit processing enterprise opens in Georgia’s Tsnori

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 16

A fruit processing enterprise has opened in Tsnori town of Georgia's Kakheti region, Trend reports citing Georgian media outlets.

About 11 tons of dried fruit per year will be produced at the plant. The company employs 10 local residents.

In 2020, the state-owned enterprise will implement the international standard for food safety - ISO: 22000.

The enterprise was built as part of the Joint Agricultural Project.

The total amount of project’s investments amounted to 877,000 lari ($297,202), of which 438,000 lari ($148,432) was provided in the form of preferential agricultural loans, and 350,000 lari ($118,610) – as state subsidy.

Ilya Tamarashvili, head of the Agency for Rural Development and, Givi Metreveli, deputy governor of the Kakheti region together with representatives of local self-government, visited a fruit processing plant and got acquainted with the production process.

“The processing infrastructure occupies a significant part in the agricultural supply chain, the agency will continue to co-finance farmers in the future,” Tamarashvili said.

It is noteworthy that with the financial support of the state in the Kakheti region, 74 new enterprises were opened within the framework of the Joint Agricultural Project, including enterprises for the processing of grapes, milk and fruits.

The Agency for Rural Development implements a single agricultural project aimed at long-term development and creating conditions conducive to competitiveness in agriculture, sustainable growth of high-quality production, and the implementation of international food safety standards.
