Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov met in Tashkent with Special Envoy of Canada to the European Union and Europe, Canadian Ambassador to Germany Stephane Dion, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry.
As was emphasized, the Canadian side can implement joint projects involving advanced Canadian technologies and investments to expand mutually beneficial ties with Uzbekistan in the trade and economic sphere.
During the conversation, the parties analyzed the state and prospects of further development of bilateral cooperation, including within the UN and other international organizations.
It was noted that over the past three years, there has been an intensification of contacts at the level of parliaments, ministries of foreign affairs, and business circles of the two countries.
The sides confirmed the interest in further building up interaction, giving it a multifaceted character, reviewed the schedule of upcoming Uzbek-Canadian events and exchanged views on certain issues of international and regional policy.
During the visit, Dion will hold talks in the Parliament of Uzbekistan and ministry of water management to discuss prospects for bilateral relations, inter-regional cooperation, as well as measures to overcome the consequences of the drying of the Aral Sea.
Dion also intends to visit Uzbekistan’s Yurt-Istikboli Social Information Center in Gulistan to conduct training on gender issues with the participation of activists of the youth wing of political parties in the region.
The first ever Uzbek-Canadian-American business forum was held in Navoi in May 2019, where representatives of 32 leading Canadian companies participated.
Since February 2018, a simplified procedure for issuing tourist visas for Canadian citizens has been introduced.
