Iran aims to produce from 13.5 to 13.7 million tons of wheat yearly

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.2

Due to demand in different consumption needs in agriculture, Iran is estimated to provide between 13.5 to 13.7 million tons of wheat annually, Esmaeil Esfandiari-Pour, the advisor to Agriculture Minister said, Trend reported via ILNA.

He went on to criticize the work of the country's Plan and Budget Organization for poor stabilization of Iran's wheat self-sufficiency.

“Only a small amount of planned credit was allocated to the wheat self-sufficiency plan," Esfandiari-Pour said.

He also added that new and efficient technologies in micro-irrigation for wheat farming, will requre specific support.

Esfandiari-Pour also pointed to other requirements that will sustain the wheat's self-sufficiency, saying that timely and appropriate timing of wheat and other crop guarantee purchase before the start of the crop year, is essential.

He also pointed out to importance of mechanization in reducing wheat waste.
