Iran unveils value of its foreign trade turnover

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 8

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The value of Iran's trade turnover is projected to be reached about $70 billion by the end of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021), Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Mehdi Mirashrafi said in a press conference, Trend reports citing the ILNA.

The director general emphasized that the value of Iran's exports will reach $34 billion and the imports - $36 billion.

“This figure is small for Iran, because, about $24 trillion worth of goods are exported annually in the world. About 7.5 percent of the world's reserves are in Iran. If Iran accounts for 1 percent of world total exports, it can export $240 billion worth of goods. Therefore, the export strategy must be regulated,” he added.

Mirashrafi noted that 95 percent of Iran's imports are implemented through ports.

According to him, 4.5 million tons of essential products have been delivered to the Iranian ports.

The director general said that 14 ships with 607,000 tons of cargo are waiting in Iranian ports to be unloaded. So, a total of 5.6 million tons of essential products are currently in Iranian ports.

Iran exported 94.5 million tons of goods worth about $28.1 billion during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through January 20, 2021). Iran's exports decreased by 20 percent in terms of value and 17.7 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

In addition, Iran imported 28.2 million tons of goods worth $30.6 billion over the reporting period. The imports decreased by 15.5 percent in terms of value and 2 percent in terms of volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.
