Georgia sees increase in fruit exports

The volume of exports of fruit and nuts from Georgia amounted to $171.76 million in 2020, Trend reports citing the National Statistics Service of Georgia (Geostat).

The share of fruit and nuts in Georgia’s total exports for the reported period amounted to 5.1 percent.

The main positions in the group accounted for hazelnuts - $91.09 million, tangerines - $21.74 million, peaches (including nectarines) - $21.45 million, persimmons - $5.68 million, apples - $5.10 million, blueberries - $3.82 million, oranges - $2.62 million, bananas - $2.54 million, lemons - $1.96 million, plums - $1.80 million, figs - $1.29 million and walnuts - $1.13 million.

Compared to 2019, the export of fruit has increased by 41 percent.

In 2019, fruit and nuts worth $21.83 million were exported from Georgia. Their share in the total volume of Georgian exports for the same period was 3.2 percent. The leading positions accounted for hazelnuts - $63.34 million, tangerines - $18.42 million, peaches, including nectarines - $12.48 million, bananas - $5.36 million, apples - $4.59 million, persimmons - $4.20 million, oranges - $1.51 million, pistachios - $1.45 million and walnuts - $1.36 million.

The export indicator of dried fruits from apples was at the level of $0.46 million.
