JBIC expands cooperation with Azerbaijan

The Japanese Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) mission has arrived to Baku in order to monitor the implemented in Azerbaijan projects and discuss the future cooperation with Azerbaijan. The director of the Central Asian and Caucasus department of the bank, Shohei Hara and head of the Moscow office, Akixiro Kudo are among the delegation, the economic development ministry told Trend.

JBIC proposals on certain sectors have been scrutinized at the meeting with the economic development minister, Heydar Babayev. The bank` s experts have expressed their wish to cooperate within the limits of the medium technical professional education project. The preliminary document on the given project has been prepared and presented to the government. It is now at the stage of discussion.

Japanese bankers were also interested in the state program of the social-economic development of the regions and expressed interest in the modification of the water system in the country regions. The bank is currently studying the given aspects.

The state program on poverty reduction and long-term development was under discussion as well; cooperation in that area is welcome. Another JBIC area of interest is energy sector.

Up to $500m have been allocated by the bank into implementation of Azerbaijani projects during the time of cooperation (for Azximiya reconstruction and first and second phases of the Severnaya power station building).
