Four-speed automatics to be gone by 2015

(autoinsidernews) - Not that they are going out on a limb on this projection, but transmission supplier Jatco Ltd. believes that four-speed automatic transmissions will be gone by 2015. Newer transmissions, like 6-speed automatics and CVTs, will rapidly replace the four-speeds seen in most vehicles since the 80s, according to Shigeo Ishida, president of the company, reports Trend.

Four-speed automatics had a good run, but as five- and six- (or more) transmissions are becoming more popular, four-speed automatics are becomes a marketing weakness for any vehicle that still uses them.
