Iraq May Export Gas Via Nabucco

Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 June / Trend corr A. Badalova/ "Iraq may commence gas export to the Europe via Nabucco gas pipeline, whose construction is expected to be completed in 2012," Yusuf Yazar, Deputy Energy Minister of Turkey, said at the 15th annual international conference 'Oil & Gas, Processing and Petrochemistry' in Baku on 4 June. Exhibition and conference were organized by Iteca Caspian.

According to Yazar, Iraqi gas may be delivered to Turkey and onwards via Nabucco.

"Iraqi gas is one of the possible resources for Nabucco gas pipeline," Yazar said. According to him, presently Turkey is discussing with Iraq opportunities to transport gas via Nabucco.

The Nabucco gas pipeline will supply gas from Azerbaijan and Central Asia to EU countries. From Central Asia gas may be delivered to Nabucco via planned Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, which will be constructed along the bed of the Caspian Sea. Nabucco with initial carrying capacity of 8bln cu m per year will be constructed by 2012 and the supply will commence in 2013.
