"Azerbaijan will build a factory to produce dimetilefir, which is a modern 21st-century diesel fuel," AZMECO President and CEO Nizami Piriyev said today.

"Diesel fuel has a rich composition of chemicals, which are very harmful for the environment and human health," he said. "However, dimetilefir is a fuel that burns completely and does not harm the environment as our fuel does today."

According to the official, buses and large trucks may gradually switch from the cleaner fuel.

Piriyev said dimetilefira production will begin immediately after the methanol plant is built, which should last 1.5 years.

He also said dimetilefira will cost 22-25-percent less than imported fuels.

"Sales will begin in 2013," Piriyev said.

Dimetilefir is a methanol derivative produced while converting synthetic gas into a liquid.

Today the world's dimetilefir consumption is roughly 150,000 tons per year.
