Azerbaijan, Baku, July 20 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

Currently, export potential of Azerbaijan hits 4-5 billion kilowatt-hours, the Azerbaijani scientific-research project search energy institute director Nurali Yusifov said. The main producer and distributor of electricity in Azerbaijan is "Azerenergy".

Yusifov said that currently work is held  to realize the projects on synchronization of energy systems of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran, as well as energy systems of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

Azerbaijani needs realization of projects on synchronization of energy systems to export electricity produced in the country.

Realization of the project on synchronization of Azerbaijani energy system with the northern and southern neighbor will allow implementing the mutual volume of electricity between Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran, as well as connect the rest countries of the region to this project. Earlier, Russia and Iran held talks on the type of cooperation. One side insisted on the mutual sale of electricity, the other - on the exchange.

The project on energy bridge with Turkey via Georgia envisages rehabilitation of the existing 500-kilovolt transmission line between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as the construction of new power line from Georgia to Turkey.

Last year, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding on the project Power Bridge. A joint project is carried out in three countries. It is funded by the Agency for International Development (USAID). USAID and the Association of Energy jointly carry out financial and technical assistance.
