Kazakh port reduces oil cargo transportation

The Aktau International Commercial Sea Port transported about 6.41 million tons of oil cargo In January-August compared to about 7.5 million tons in January-August 2009, the port said. The volume of transshipped oil cargo in July totaled 628,000 tons, or 4.8 percent more than the planned figure.

In 2009 the port transported more than 11.3 million tons of oil cargo compared to nine million tons in 2008.

About 2.16 million tons of dry cargo was transported in January-August compared to about 1.6 million tons in January-August last year. About 1.3 million tons fall to steel products, ferry cargo - 368,600 tons, grain - 347,500 tons and 172,300 tons - other goods.

Last year, the port transported more than 2.6 million tons of dry cargo compared to 2.11 million tons in 2008.

The port transported 8.57 million tons of oil and dry cargo in January-August compared to 9.1 million tons in January-August last year.

Total transshipment in 2009 amounted to about 14 million tons of oil and dry cargo compared to 11 million tons in 2008.

In January-July the Aktau port received 1,383 ships.

There are six international sea ports - Baku (Azerbaijan), Astrakhan (Russia), Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan), Aktau (Kazakhstan), Enezeli and Neka (Iran) in the Caspian Sea.
