Construction of a plant for carbamide production in the Sumgayit city (35 km from Baku) is important from the standpoint of food security, a source in oil and gas market told Trend.
"Gas is raw material for carbamide production, and Azerbaijan has great reserves of gas, which is guarantee of success in implementation of this project," the source said.
He said at present SOCAR selects a contractor.
According to the SOCAR plans, construction of the new plant, which will be built on an area of 24 hectares, is planned to begin this year and to be completed in 2014. Production capacity of the enterprise will hit 1,200 tons of ammonium and 2,000 tones of carbamide per day.
Construction of the new plant will be fully financed from the state budget under the "State Program on reliable provision of population with food in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2008-2015" approved by the President.
The plant will include units for production of ammonium, carbamide liquid and commodity carbamide. Commodity output of the plant will include ammonium and carbamide.
In addition to meeting the domestic market needs, SOCAR plans to sell part of the products produced by the plant on the Black Sea market.
The plant construction will involve 3,000 people, and after commissioning of the company - 500 people will be employed.
