By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

It is planned to start drilling at Azerbaijan’s Bahar gas field in the third quarter of 2018, Trend learned from the US Greenfields Petroleum Corporation.

“We are working with Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR to assess the platform refurbishment requirements for platform BH 196. We are planning to start the work in the field in April and complete in June. This would allow the drilling to start in Q3 2018,” said a source in the company.

The drilling is forecast to take 180 days and be completed in the first quarter of 2019, added the source.

In November 2017, Bahar Energy Operating Company Limited (BEOC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Greenfields, executed an exclusive memorandum of understanding with SOCAR Complex Drilling Works Trust, a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), to formalize a partnership for the drilling of deep gas wells in the Bahar gas field offshore Azerbaijan.

BEOC has identified locations to potentially reestablish gas production from the deep NKP reservoir of the Bahar gas field. BEOC estimates the NKP reservoir contains over 200 Bcf of remaining gas.

The contract for exploration, rehabilitation, development and production at the block of offshore fields Bahar and Gum Deniz was signed by SOCAR and Bahar Energy in 2009. Bahar field, located 40 kilometers southeast of Baku, has been under development since 1969.
