By Ali Mustafayev – Trend:

The level of oil and gas production at Kazakhstan’s oil and gas field Kashagan decreased, Deputy Energy Minister of Kazakhstan Magzum Mirzagaliyev said at a press conference, Kazakh media outlets reported.

Despite the fact that there are no significant problems at the field, gas production on a number of wells have been stopped on the offshore "D" island of the Kashagan field.

The delay is due to the analysis of the injectivity of the gas reservoir of the field.

"We stopped the injection of gas, despite that the increase in production of oil at Kashagan primarily depends on the injection of gas. Last year, we had some technical difficulties with gas injection, which we didn’t expect," Mirzagaliyev said.

The decision to suspend the production of oil and gas from six wells until mid-April was made to assess the difficulties with injectivity of the gas reservoir, according to the deputy minister.

The vice-minister added that the production of oil at Kashagan has decreased from an average of 300,000 barrels per day to 200,000 barrels.

The ministry expects the wells to function at full capacity in mid-April.
