Global electricity production forecast for up to 2040

According to forecasts by the International Energy Agency (IEA), global electricity production will reach 38.7 billion megawatts per hour in 2040, Trend reports referring to the agency's report.

The report said last year's global electricity demand of 23 billion megawatts per hour would increase to 34.5 billion megawatts per hour by 2040.

Most of the world's electricity demand,18 billion megawatts per hour, will fall to the share of the Asia-Pacific region, while North America will account for 5.6 billion megawatts per hour.

The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in production will exceed 50 percent.

During this period, 26 billion megawatts per hour of electricity will be generated from RES.

The largest share,15.5 billion megawatts per hour, will be provided by wind and solar power plants, while hydroelectric power stations will account for 6.9 billion megawatts per hour.
