Iran is looking to connect its Chabahar Port to the country's gas network, and build a gas pipeline from Iranshahr to Chabahar, Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Company Hassan Montazertorbati said, Trend reports via IRNA.

Hassan Montazertorbati said the mentioned pipeline is being constructed in four parts.

"The plan is to have gas go to Chabahar and Konarak power plants, and halt the consumption of liquid fuel in these plants," he said.

At the same time, he said that Iran's Oil Ministry won't be facing any financial difficulties with development of a gas network in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

The official indicated that all the costs of investments in construction and development of the gas network will be compensated from replacing liquid fuel with natural gas.

"By development of gas network, consumption of liquid fuel at power plants and houses will be reduced," he said.

"The construction of a gas network, and gas supply to users in eight cities in Sistan and Baluchestan Province has already started. The gas supply project has a 76 percent-progress in city of Zahedan," he added.

"So far, around 31,000 families have been connected to the gas network in Zahedan, while construction to expand gas network in seven cities in Iranshahr is ongoing," he said.
