Construction of the first national thermal power plant in Iran will begin this year (starting March 20, 2020), said Mohsen Tarztalab, managing director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, Trend reports citing the company’s official website.

According to Tarztalab, the efficiency of this thermal power plant will be 60 percent.

Tarztalab added that the thermal power plant will be built with the investment of the Iranian Thermal Power Plants Holding Company and in cooperation with the MAPNA Group of Iran.

The official said that in addition to 3,044 megawatts thermal power plants will be commissioned in the current Iranian year and thus the efficiency of thermal power plants will increase to 39 percent.

"This year, 9 steam thermal power plants will be commissioned and their production will be 1,454 megawatts," he said.

Tarztalab said that 3 new gas and steam units will be commissioned with F-class turbines. The efficiency of these stations will be 58 percent. This will help increase the efficiency of all Iranian thermal power plants.

The capacity of Iran's thermal power plants is 83,500 megawatts.

About 250 water, electricity and sewage facilities will be commissioned in Iran this year (starting from March 20, 2020). About 500 trillion rials (about $11.9 billion) have been invested in the construction of these facilities.

MAPNA Group is a group of Iranian companies involved in development and execution of thermal and renewable power plants, oil and gas.
