BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.25

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Petkim petrochemical complex is not expected to decrease its production volume in 2020 or 2021, said Head of the SOCAR Turkey Refinery and Petrochemicals Business Unit and General Manager of Petkim Anar Mammadov, Trend reports.

He made the remarks during an online press conference.

“The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t significantly affected Petkim. The oil demand can decrease, but the demand for some petrochemical products has even increased,” said Mammadov, stressing that some products of Petkim are used for production of masks and other medical products.

“We expect this upward trend to continue in the petrochemical sector in early 2021. We determine our production plans in accordance with market conditions. Petkim is not expected to reduce its production in 2020 and 2021. We do not plan to produce new products in 2021, since it requires considerable amount of investments,” said Mammadov.

Petkim is the first and the sole integrated petrochemical facility in Turkey. It is the largest exporter in the Aegean region. Petkim’s production capacity is 3.6 million tons per year. The petrochemical complex produces around 60 different types of products and exports to 78 countries. The complex meets about 20 percent of Turkey’s demand for petrochemical products.
