Azerbaijan to Become One of IT Leading Countries – Diplomat
Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 May / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / Azerbaijan and Belarussia have similarities in the sphere of information-communication technologies (ICT) development, Nikolai Patskevich, Ambassador of Belarussia in Azerbaijan, stated.
"ICT development takes priority directions in our countries," Patskevich stated in an interview to the Rabita Dunyasi newspaper (official newspaper of the Communication and IT Ministry of Azerbaijan).
According to Patskevich, Belorussia have progressive achievements in ICT sphere and implements projects on electron government to develop an optic-fiber networking.
"We have observed that Azerbaijan has been increasing and strengthening its positions actively. Naturally, Azerbaijan will become one of the leading countries in the sphere of ICT soon. I believe, we could have mutual beneficial projects in this sphere," Patskevich stated.
During the Azerbaijani Communication Minister to Belorussia in March, the sides discussed further bilateral cooperation in ICT sphere, particularly, to hold business-forum on technology parks in Baku with participation of Belarusian high technique park (HTP). The volume of HTP export totaled $56.8mln in 2007.
As for 1 January 2008, 4,537 people worked in HTP. About 70% of workers were youth. HTP has set up over 20 IT-laboratories in different Belorussia-based Universities.
