Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan consider boosting co-op in ICT sector

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan noted great potential between the countries for mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of ICT, Trend reports with reference to uzdaily.uz.

The Digital Almaty 2021 forum was held in Almaty (Kazakhstan) on February 5 of this year, which was attended by the heads of the governments of the EAEU countries, ministers and officials in the field of information and communication technologies development within the member states, as well as heads of large internet projects and businesses.

Within the forum a meeting was held between the First Deputy Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan Oleg Pekos with the First Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan Anuar Akhmetzhanov.

The parties discussed issues of further expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of e-government and digital economy.

It was also reported that it is planned to build a high-speed railroad on the Turkestan-Shymkent-Tashkent route. According to the information, the construction of a new railway line will increase the tourist flow between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The realization of this project will create 22,000 new jobs in the tourism industry with an increase of 50 percent, as well as 100,000 new jobs in related sectors of the economy of Kazakhstan

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan will attract $2.5 billion for the development of digital infrastructure in the next two years.

In particular, it is planned to launch three new data centers in Tashkent, Bukhara, and Kokand regions, expand the fixed telecommunications network and modernize mobile communications, as well as expand the functions of electronic government and improving the quality of IT education.
