According to the last information, Azerfon JV, new service provider, starts operating in October-November 2006, Trend reports quoting Ali Abbasov, Minister of Communication and IT.
At the moment the company is establishing its network in Azerbaijan.
Azerfon is installing its network in Baku, Absheron peninsula and Ganja, Mingachevir, Alibayramli, Guba and so. In the end of the year, coverage area shall include 10 area centers and main highways Baku-Guba and Baku-Ganja.
Azerfon was licensed for service provision by Communication Ministry on December 28, 2005. The company founders are PA Aztelekom (10%), Siemens (30%) and two British companies (60%).
The main requirement of the project is to cover 85% of Azerbaijan in two years, which calls for investments anticipated in amount of $300mln.
