In 2006, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan gave into exploitation 280,594 new telephone numbers, an increase of 116,409 from the last year, Trend reports quoting the same Ministry. 179,092 accounts fell on the share of the Production Unit Baki Telefon Rabitasi and 101,502 on Aztelekom Production Unit.
The investments for the reported period exceeded AZN 41 mln. They were directed towards reconstruction of new telephone lines. Aztelekom provides international and intercity telephone connections on the territory of the country, including Baku and Nakchivan Autonomous Republic. Baki Telefon Rabitasi provides all telephone and radio communications services in the territory of Baku city to the state bodies and departments, enterprises and organizations and foreign juridical persons. It includes 9 telecommunication enterprises, construction departments and project-surveying department.
