Azerbaijan reveals seven-month car production data

As many as 1,074 cars were produced in Azerbaijan from January through July 2020, which is 21.4 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing a report of the State Statistics Committee.

According to the committee, the total volume of production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers in Azerbaijan amounted to 183.1 million manat ($107.7 million), having increased by 13.3 percent over the year.

Azerbaijan imported 43,156 cars for a total amount of almost 546 million manat ($321.1 million) in 2019. The country also imported 3,780 trucks worth 62 million manat ($36.4 million) last year, and hereby the number of tracks increased 1.6 times, while their value - 1.9 times year-on-year, said the report.

At the same time, 547 buses worth 73.5 million manat ($43.2 million) were imported by the country. Herein, the number imported buses grew 1.8 times, while their value- 4.6 times.

In 2018, a new automobile plant was launched in Azerbaijan’s Neftchala district. The plant produces cars under the Khazar brand. The launch of the plant led to massive growth in the country’s car production. There is also the Nakhchivan Automobile Plant in Azerbaijan, where Chinese cars of Lifan brand are assembled, as well as the Ganja Automobile Plant, on the basis of which tractors, agricultural machinery, as well as several models of trucks of Belarusian and Russian companies are produced.

According to forecasts of the Azerbaijani government, the production of cars in 2020 will amount to 56 million manat ($32.9 million), in 2021 - 85.3 million manat ($50.1 million), and in 2022 - 113.3 million manat ($66.6 million).

The country plans to gradually increase the volume of car production to 7,000 units per year. In 2020, their production will reach 2,000 units, in 2021 – 3,500 units, in 2022 – 5,300 units, and in 2023 – 7,000 units.
