Slovenian Railways wants to boost co-op with Azerbaijan in passenger transportation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 3

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The passenger section of the Slovenian Railways is interested in increased cooperation with Azerbaijan Railways, with the aim of better presence in the wider geographical area, the acquisition of passenger flows and consequently, better financial results, Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure told Trend.

The ministry said the potentials for increased cooperation between Slovenia and Azerbaijan include:

The signing of a bilateral agreement on road transport;

Cooperation between Slovenian and Azerbaijan Railways in the field of passenger transport;

Increased flight connectivity with Azerbaijan and the entire Caucasus region.

As for the energy cooperation, the ministry said Slovenia and Azerbaijan have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of energy in 2009, while the Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership remains the basis for bilateral energy cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan.

Commenting on the significance of the recently launched Southern Gas Corridor, the ministry said Slovenia welcomes any project that complies with EU legislation and contributes to greater energy security and diversification of energy sources. “The more providers there are on the market, the greater the competition and consequently the supply of natural gas to the end user.”
