Several projects to modernize air transport infrastructure underway in Kazakhstan

Several projects are currently underway in Kazakhstan to modernize the air transport infrastructure, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development.

The Ust-Kamenogorsk airport is being reconstructed within the framework of the Nurly Zhol State Program of Infrastructure Development for 2020-2025. The project provides for an extension of the runway by 300 meters and replacement of lighting equipment for receiving modern types of aircraft.

Furthermore, the construction of a new terminal at the Shymkent airport also continues, thanks to private investments. The terminal area is to be expanded from 3,800 to 35,000 square meters and its capacity is to be increased from 150 to 2,000 passengers per hour.The new terminal will meet international quality and safety standards.

The akimat (administrative center) of West Kazakhstan region is working on the reconstruction of the air terminal complex of the Uralsk airport through private investment. The terminal area will more than double, the capacity will increase from 100 to 200 passengers per hour.

The construction work of all these projects is expected to be completed before the end of 2021 for some and the first half of 2022 for the others.

The reconstruction of the runway and the building of the air terminal in the village of Urjar is also top be completed this year to ensure transport accessibility of the Lake Alakol.

The work on the reconstruction of the runway, taxiway and apron has also began this year in the airport in Usharal.
