The National Bank of Kazakhstan has raised the base interest rate to 17 percent starting from February 2, according to the press service of the bank.

Since October 2015, the base interest rate in Kazakhstan was 16 percent, previously - 12 percent.

Operations of continued access were resumed with a symmetric interest rate corridor of +/- 2 percentage points.

Another decision of the National Bank of Kazakhstan regarding the base interest rate will be announced March 14.

The national bank said that the increase in the base interest rate is a continuation of work to improve the monetary policy and is aimed at ensuring the stability of the financial sector, restoring confidence in the national currency.

The National Bank of Kazakhstan will continue to adhere to the regime of free floating exchange rate of the country's national currency tenge, the message said.
